Amusing English Expressions for Embarrassing Situations

When you burp, cough etc.

You can simply say

Excuse me.

 

When you fart

If you happen to fart when people are around.

Excuse me

Oops! That was me.

Oopsie!

My bad.

 

When you sneeze

You can say

Excuse me

I’m sorry

When someone sneezes, it’s polite to say “Bless you” or “God bless you” and then the person who sneezed would reply with “Thanks.”

When you break or drop something accidentally 

The commonly used interjection are:

Oops!

Whoops!

You can also say

I’m sorry

I’m so clumsy

I can’t believe I did that!

Oh no, not again

I’d like to pay for it

 

When you forget some vital information

You can say

Sorry, I’m not able to recall it at the moment.

Sorry, I’m drawing blank here.

Oops, I am totally blank.

Or you can ask your colleague or friend for help

Could you help me out? 

Let me ask my friend about it

You could also say

Let me check my notes 

Let me check my schedule

Let me get back to you on that

 

When you forget somebody’s name

If someone has recently introduced himself/herself and you forgot the name, you can say

I’m sorry, I didn’t catch you name.

I’m sorry, what was your name again.

If you meet somebody after a long time, you are not able to recall name

I’m so sorry but I’ve forgotten your name.

This is so embarrassing but I can’t seem to remember your name.

I’m terrible with names.

I’m really bad at remembering names. Sorry

Sorry, I’ve lousy memory.

 

When you make other embarrassing mistake

You can use these expressions:

I can’t believe I did it again.

I can’t believe it happened again. Sorry

I don’t know what I was thinking

I’m having a terrible day.

Today is not my day.

What I meant to say was…….
